Internet Tethering (using your iPhone 3G as a modem)
If you're on Pay Monthly or a business tariff, you get unlimited web browsing on your iPhone through the O2 network as standard. We've also partnered up with BT Openzone and The Cloud to give you unlimited Wi-Fi in their hotspots.
If you want to use your laptop when you're out and about, internet tethering lets you connect your iPhone to your computer and use it as a modem so you can get on the internet, a bit like mobile broadband. And you still get unlimited UK web browsing and Wi-Fi on your iPhone. Internet tethering doesn't work with 2G iPhones.
How it works
First you'll need one of our iPhone Internet Tethering Bolt Ons. They give you a bundle of data and unlimited Wi-Fi from our partner The Cloud's 5,000 hotspots (BT Openzone hotspots to follow) so that you can minimise the amount of data you need to use via Internet tethering on your iPhone.
To use Wi-Fi on your laptop, you don't need to tether your iPhone to your laptop. If your iPhone is connected, make sure you switch off Internet Tethering on your iPhone before connecting directly to the Wi-Fi hotspot.

Using Internet Tethering abroad
Your Internet Tethering Bolt On allowance only works in the UK. If you use your iPhone as a modem abroad, it'll cost £3 a MB (£2.55 without VAT) in the EU and £6 a MB everywhere else.
Important information
To avoid unexpected call charges, please switch off the Internet Tethering option when you are not using your iPhone as a modem. Just follow these simple steps to do this:
Settings > General > Network > Internet Tethering - switch off.
If you're on Pay & Go
Internet Tethering doesn't work on Pay & Go. But you can get unlimited internet browsing in the UK on your iPhone with the O2 Web & Wi-Fi Bolt On.
