You can use your messages bundle to send picture messages in the UK and abroad. One picture message equals four normal texts. If you've got no bundle texts left, they cost 25p a message (21.28p excluding VAT).
Travelling with iPhone
iPhone Pay Monthly tariffs come with International Traveller Service. So you get up to 80% off calls and texts when you're abroad.
Internet costs £3 a MB in the EU and £6 a MB everywhere else. If you use the internet and email on your iPhone a lot, you should look into our Data Abroad Bolt Ons.
How do I get one?
You can buy one from our online shop. Or from any O2 shop or The Carphone Warehouse.
You need to be over 18 to get an iPhone 3G on Pay Monthly. You also need to pass a credit check. You need a bank account for the monthly Direct Debit. And you need an email address because we’ll email you your bills.
If you’re going to an O2 shop or The Carphone Warehouse, you’ll need to take two forms of ID that show your address.
To activate your iPhone, you'll need a computer with iTunes and an internet connection. Your computer needs to have at least the below to run iTunes;

- USB 2.0 port
- Mac OS X v10.4.11 or later
- iTunes v8.2 or later
- USB 2.0 port
- Windows Vista. Or Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 2 or later
- iTunes v8.2 or later
Keep your number
You can switch to O2 and keep your number. Just call your network and ask for a PAC code. Then give it to us when you buy your iPhone or tell us online when your iPhone arrives. It takes about two working days after that to move the number over. We’ll give you a temporary number so you can start using your iPhone in the meantime.
Upgrading to the new iPhone 3GS
If you’ve already got an iPhone, you can download the new iPhone OS 3.0 software. For free. It comes with picture messaging and lets you use your iPhone as a modem. Find out more about iPhone OS 3.0 software.

iPhone 3GS might not always be available. We’ll run a credit check. You must sign up to an 18 or 24 month contract and pay by Direct Debit. Any data you use abroad isn’t included. Unlimited Wi-Fi (within reason) is available at 7,500 Wi-Fi hotspots from our partners The Cloud and BT Openzone.
Inclusive minutes cover calls to standard UK landlines (starting 01, 02 or 03) and all UK network mobiles. But not non-geographic numbers (starting 05, 08), 07744 and 07755 numbers, or premium rate (09) numbers. Once you’ve used up your allowance, calls you make in the UK cost 20p a minute and UK text messages cost 12p each. You can use your text bundle to send picture messages in the UK and abroad. One picture message counts as four normal texts. Once you’ve used up your text allowance, picture messages cost 25p each (21.28p excluding VAT).
