Key questions for exisiting Pay Monthly customers
Q. Why can't I upgrade early for free to the new iPhone 3GS without having to pay out my existing contract - I could last time?
The original 2G iPhone was unique as customers bought the device outright. We offered an early upgrade to iPhone 3G customers last year in exchange for an 18-month contract and subsidised the handset for our customers.
The contract terms of iPhone 3G are, however, the same as for every other handset we sell. Customers sign a minimum term contract and receive a subsidised handset in return.
Q. Why do you offer 18 and 24 month contracts when Apple seem to launch a new device every 12 months?
We don't control handset manufacturer launches and so producing tariffs to align with possible manufacturer launch schedules is not possible - handset manufacturers may bring out 2 devices in a year or none for 18-months.
Customers come in and out of contract throughout the year and we endeavour to deliver value for everybody. We offer a wide range of options for all customers offering both 18 and 24-month contracts with a subsidised handset and complete flexibility with Pay & Go.
Pay Monthly customers can place their existing iPhone 3G Sim card into a new Pay & Go iPhone 3GS and receive all the latest functionality. Customers must continue to pay for their existing Pay Monthly tariff.
Q. What can I do if I don't want to pay to end my iPhone 3G contract early or buy iPhone 3GS on Pay & Go?
The new iPhone OS 3.0 software will bring over 100 new features to all iPhone customers and is available to download for free through iTunes from the evening of 17 June. Many of the new features coming in the iPhone 3GS, including MMS, cut, copy & paste, spotlight search and more are available in this software update. We recommend all iPhone customers download the new software.
Q. How do the prices compare with other countries?
Very well. We believe we offer our customers competitively priced handsets, partially subsidised handsets and free handsets (on 18 and 24 month minimum term contracts), as well as unlimited UK web browsing and Wi-Fi as standard on all iPhone tariffs.
Q. Why is it not possible to use internet tethering under the existing unlimited data option?
Our contract iPhone tariffs come with unlimited web browsing and Wi-Fi as standard designed for surfing the internet on the iPhone itself.
Internet Tethering opens up a range of new ways for using the iPhone, effectively turning it into a mobile broadband dongle. We know that laptops use, on average, significantly more data than on the iPhone and we have priced our internet tethering Bolt Ons in line with the pricing of our mobile broadband services but offer our customers a 30-day rolling Bolt On for the most amount of flexibility.
